I LOVE Social Studies! Since I am the fifth grade Social Studies teacher this year, I would like to let you know what to expect:

* We will study the landforms and regions of the United States. We'll also work with reading maps, with Longitude and
Latitude, to find places all over the world.

* We learned about the early European explorers to the New World and did a mini research report on them.

If you are not happy with the grade you received on your explorer project, you may re-do the Venn Diagram and give it to Mrs.Bohy BY OR BEFORE December 7.

* We will study the early colonies of the United States and do many projects and activities to help us understand what colonial life was like. Two special field trips, our Colonial Day at the Fife and Drum Museum, and a long day trip to Plimoth Plantation and the Mayflower II in Massachusets were enjoyed by all the fifth grade!

* We will create a glossary of "100 Words To Know".

* We will memorize the 44 Presidents. Also, we will investigate other Civics topics, our Constitution and Elections.
DURING NOVEMBER, YOU SHOULD BE LOOKING AT YOUR PRESIDENTS LIST AND PRACTICING THE FIRST TEN.

* We will study the causes of and the fighting of the American Revolution, and try to connect this
to Freedom Fighters in our world today. PLEASE WATCH THE NEWS. PAY SPECIAL ATTENTION TO WHAT IS HAPPENING IN THE COUNTRY OF SYRIA. NOW THAT THE ELECTIONS ARE OVER, WE CAN LOOK TO OTHER COUNTRIES!
